History
Putney & Wood was established in 1991 by Barry Putney and Andy Wood, two fully qualified stonemasons who met while serving their apprenticeships at Ashby & Horner.
Following their apprenticeships, Barry and Andy worked together as self-employed Masonry Fixers before forming their own company. They initially provided labour-only fixing teams for other stone contractors, but before long they made the transition into a fully-fledged masonry contractor, working for main contractors and clients alike on some of London’s most well-known buildings.
The Company was founded on years of practical experience and since the very beginning has placed importance on building a strong team. With several key people remaining at the Company for many years, this philosophy continues to benefit our customers through the continuity and commitment shown by Putney & Wood’s people.

John Hall, who heads up the John F Hunt Group, (www.johnfhunt.co.uk) became a shareholder in 2000, a move which helped to further elevate the Company’s profile and enhanced its growing reputation as a major stone contractor.
The Company has gone from strength to strength and currently employs 40 site personnel and 18 office staff with the in-house expertise to find solutions for the most challenging problems. However, Barry and Andy are still very much involved and their partnership remains the driving force of the business.
