This new office and retail development is located on the corner of Long Acre and St. Martin's Lane in Covent Garden.
Putney & Wood was appointed to carry out the stonework package by main contractor Wates. The contract combined the cleaning and restoration of the existing Victorian building, and the design, procurement and installation of stone for the new build element of the scheme.
The reinforced concrete structure was clad in vein-cut, 50mm Jura beige limestone which included intricate detailed bays and projections. As with many of the projects that Putney & Wood undertake, the site lacked storage space. To overcome this issue they gave considerable thought to procurement and planning to ensure materials were always available on-site when needed.
In addition to the external stonework, Putney & Wood also designed and installed the internal stonework package, which included Portland stone for internal staircases and floors.
Mark Craig of Wates said ‘’I have had the pleasure of working with Putney & Wood on numerous projects over the years all of which have been exceptionally challenging, satisfying and driven by client high expectation. Putney & Wood bring with them a wealth of experience in the provision of professional masonry craftsmen who deliver a quality product. They take exceptional pride in the end result and go the ‘extra mile’ to ensure that this is maintained throughout the life of the project. They are easy and approachable to work with and have the ability to ‘think outside the box’ when challenges present themselves. I would most definitely work with Putney & Wood again should the opportunity present itself.’’
